This work plays with the creation of space through netting – both a net like a cuboid shape opened out – and a net made of string. There is a confusion between solidity and open-ness, over and under. I love playing with the negative spaces – what you chose to keep revealed from below, which is something that comes from my love for printmaking.

It has a water-like quality, rippling through the paper space. I often visit riverside industrial areas and photograph the objects there, such as fishing netting. I live near the canal in East London which no longer has the function for which it was built. I’m curious about what things get added to this obsolete channel and ‘disappear’ into its shallow depths.
