I think about how the world is organised and the things that separate one space from another, that separate one body from another. How do we move through these spaces? I have a natural tendency to break space into a grid – the influence of architecture, windows for example. In this work however, the grid isn’t fixed, it hovers and moves.

Spaces open up like chasms between forms, and between one paint layer and another. It is an arrangement of interruptions, refusing to be immobile and inviting a playful interaction. As I’m also a rock climber, I’m often thinking about how to bridge a gap with my body.

These hot pink colours match the playful quality of the work but also connect with the heat of igneous rock in its liquid magma state.
